Romania’s gateway to Ukraine
Suceava County
Romania’s second-largest county by area and the country’s main road gateway to Ukraine. Wood processing, the food industry and Bucovina tourism are the three pillars of the local economy, while the Siret border crossing, the airport and the future A7 motorway are turning the county into a logistics node of European interest.

Economy
Economic profile
Wood and wood-based panel processing is the branch that defines the county, followed by the food and beverage industry, paper and board, agriculture, textiles and construction materials. The presence of European-scale foreign investors confirms that the wood value chain works here at scale.

Eight churches on the UNESCO World Heritage List and third place nationally by number of hotels.
Opportunities
Where you can invest now
Bucovina Industrial Parks, Salcea
Approximately 14 hectares at the Bucovina Economic Centre, next to the airport, with the county as majority shareholder.
The new industrial park on the BioEnergy site
Announced in May 2026 as one of the largest industrial parks in Moldavia, on several dozen hectares, with European funding; the land transfer is under way. Road, rail and airport access and, in perspective, access to the A7 motorway.
Cross-border logistics
Warehousing, transshipment and customs services around the Siret crossing and the Dornești platform — a position relevant both to current flows and to the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Workforce
Education and the labour market
„Ștefan cel Mare” University of Suceava brings together 11 faculties and more than 100 study programmes. The average net wage was RON 4,295 in May 2026, while the unemployment rate stood at 6.23% on 30 June 2026 — almost double the national average. There is therefore a genuine labour reserve, but one that needs training: in the first half of 2026 there were more than 1,300 job vacancies.
Heritage
Tourism and culture
The painted churches of Moldavia, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1993 and extended in 2010 — Voroneț, Sucevița, Moldovița, Humor, Arbore, Pătrăuți — are the county’s tourism landmark. Accommodation capacity counts almost 13,000 beds and 54 hotels, third nationally, with agritourism guesthouses accounting for almost 42% of units.
Quality of life
Why live here
Bucovina is one of Romania’s most sought-after places to live for those who want clean air, mountains an hour from home and a settled community — without giving up a modernised county hospital, a university and an international airport.
The „Saint John the New” County Emergency Hospital has entered a broad equipment programme through the Health Programme 2021–2027, digitalisation through the national recovery plan, an oncology ward and energy renovation. The network is completed by municipal hospitals in Rădăuți, Fălticeni, Câmpulung and Vatra Dornei.
„Ștefan cel Mare” University brings together 11 faculties and more than 100 study programmes, from engineering and forestry to medicine and economics. The pre-university network covers the whole county, with national colleges in Suceava, Rădăuți and Câmpulung.
The painted churches on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Suceava Fortress, the Bucovina Museum, the „Matei Vișniec” Theatre and a dense calendar of festivals of traditions and early music.
Mountains at any hour: Vatra Dornei and Câmpulung Moldovenesc for skiing and hiking, the Rarău and Giumalău massifs, mineral waters at Dorna, almost 13,000 accommodation places and the country’s densest network of agritourism guesthouses.
„Ștefan cel Mare” Airport at Salcea, with a Wizz Air base and routes to Italy, Germany, Belgium, the United Kingdom and Cyprus; a new terminal sized for more than two million passengers is under tender.
