The Piatra Neamț extension of „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași runs accounting and management programmes. The average net wage was RON 4,380 in January 2026, about 21% below the national average of RON 5,518 — a real cost advantage, coupled with an industrial workforce already trained at the Roman and Săvinești platforms.

Tourism and culture
Ceahlău National Park, with its 1,907-metre peak, the Bicaz Gorge, Neamț Citadel, the Agapia, Văratec, Neamț and Sihăstria monasteries, Vânători-Neamț Natural Park, the Cozla gondola and Ion Creangă’s memorial house at Humulești form one of Romania’s densest tourism offers. In the first half of 2026 the county recorded 86,381 Romanian tourist arrivals, down against the background of a national contraction in domestic tourism.

Why live here
Neamț is the county where the mountains begin at the edge of town. Piatra Neamț has a gondola from the centre, while the Ceahlău massif, the Bicaz Gorge and the monasteries are less than an hour away — with a cost of living among the lowest in the country.
A completely new county emergency hospital, with 469 beds and about EUR 322 million, has its financing contract signed and is planned for 2029. Until then, the existing hospital is receiving a new traumatology building, and Roman has its own municipal hospital.
Long-established national colleges in Piatra Neamț and Roman, technical high schools linked to the local industrial platforms, and an extension of „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași for economic studies.
The Youth Theatre in Piatra Neamț, one of Romania’s best-known stages, the County Museum Complex, the Princely Court, Neamț Citadel and Ion Creangă’s memorial house at Humulești.
Ceahlău National Park, the Bicaz Gorge, the Red Lake nearby, the Cozla gondola, the Izvorul Muntelui reservoir for water sports, the Agapia, Văratec, Neamț and Sihăstria monasteries, and Vânători-Neamț Natural Park with its bison reserve.
Housing and services are significantly cheaper than in the large university centres, and Bacău airport is about 60 kilometres away.
